Working from home

There are so many pros to working from home: the ability to multi-task with household chores, the ability to get out for a walk around the neighborhood during the day, the ability to be home when the kids arrive. But there are days that I admit that I don't leave the house and find myself in my pjs at noon. Anybody else work from home and have a love/hate relationship with it?

wearing all the hats...

Hi Ladies, I can speak from experience about this subject, having worked from home for apprx. 15 years.  I loved it, having been a field rep. for 8 yrs. prior to that & was really ready for a break from the travel.  What I love: no commute, no make up required; depending on the field, you can set your own hours (I used to work 1/2 day, go ride my horse & visit with my barn buddies, return & catch up on whatever was necessary). We could occasionally take time off in the middle of the week, then catch up on the weekend... I worked with my husband & for several yrs a P/T assistant.  It worked very well for us - we had complementary skills & he traveled a lot, so we got the necessary breaks from each other, as well;-)Cons: you wear all the hats including tech support, janitor, supply orderer, bookeeper, errand runner, receptionist in add'n to your primary functions.  If you do hire help, it needs to be somebody you really, really trust, if you are going to leave them in your home alone at any time.  The big con is limited socialization opportunities.  Now that I'm widowed & have shut down the business (it depended on his expertise), working from home is the last thing I want to do.  Gotta get out & make some new connections, hence my joining this site!

I work from home also, medical transcriptionist.  I love the job but I am new to the Jacksonville Florida area so haven't been able to meet many people.  I'm even considering getting a part-time job just to meet people.
Would Love to work from home

I work part time as a legal secretary and I am trying to start-up an online jewelry business.  There is so much competition on line, any tips on how to get started?

I worked from for the past 2 years and there were a lot of pros and cons as well.  I have since semi retired last August and am now lookimg for other opportunities.  I just got my Real Estate license and am considering that field.  I also am looking into doing some volunteer work.  I have worked all my life and just cannot stay at home.
Looking forward to NOT working! :

I've been in real estate sales for 30 years, and while I sometimes work from my home office, I also work outside.  I love the coffee and pjs thing at 11:00 am, but I also feel as if I am always working, and never really off.  I plan on retiring this year or next and am so looking forward to enjoying a more laid back lifestyle. That is one reason I am so enthusiastic about this site!  Maybe its the field I am in, or maybe others feel it, too, but I find that it is hard to have close friends at work... in such a competitive industry, especially when things have been so tough for so long in my profession.  Everyone wants (and needs) to "win", and that, of course, is not possible and feelings get hurt and unfair things get said, unfortunately.  I just try to be nice and "friendly" to everyone, but am so glad that this social networking site opens up another avenue for me.
Completely agree!

Wow!  You hit the nail on the head!  I have been working out of my office from home for the past 7 years!  It has been wonderful when my daughter was little.  She is now 15 and and definately more social then I.  I am finding that I kinda wish for some gal pals at the office surrounding me....though...I can't beat th fact that I can make a choc cake and do laundry while taking a phone call or typing a report....no drive time and putting on my face worries!
Working from Home - Would love to!

Although I do not work at home...I have tried to get something started for years where I could stay home and run a business.  I do however have a part-time sewing business I run after I get home from my 8-9 hour day and on the weekends.  I so would like to leave the corporate world and just work from home.  I make appliqued flags for businesses on the side and now have branched out into making cell phone holders and other fabric items.  If I worked from home I would also find myself in my jammies till noon  (like I do on Saturdays when I am working on an order).  The only thing I think that I would miss from working at home is the interaction with people that I have on a day to day basis.
